- Charlotte "Charlie" Matheson (Tracy Spiridakos) - the daughter of Ben and Rachel Matheson and sister of Danny Matheson. Post-blackout she lived in a commune that had been set up in a former sub-division prior to the murder of her father.
- Danny Matheson (Graham Rogers) - the son of Ben and Rachel Matheson and thoughtful, cautious younger brother of Charlie Matheson.
- Miles Matheson (Billy Burke) - a former Marine and warrior who's been living a reclusive life in Chicago. He is the brother of Ben Matheson and uncle of Charlie and Danny Matheson.
- Aaron Pittman (Zak Orth) - a computer genius ill-prepared for the rigors of the world he currently lives in.
- Nora Clayton (Daniella Alonso) - a rebel fighter battling against the militia.
